The whole internet pitched in and couldn’t figure out what it was. I’m not sure; not even 90% of people know…

Clackers, also known as Lik-Klaks, were popular in the 1970s and remain favorites among vintage toy collectors. The toy consists of two plastic balls connected by a cord; swinging them produces a loud “clack.”

The toy was invented in 1969 by Wham-O, the company also responsible for other popular toys such as the hula hoop, the Frisbee, and the Superball. Clackers were so popular that the company sold over 10 million units in their first year.

The item was later banned in many areas due to safety concerns. Some plastic balls would shatter, causing splinters and injuries to children. The company subsequently produced a new version of the toy made from a safer material, but it never achieved the popularity of the original.

Clackers remain popular among collectors and those who remember playing with them.

..them as children. An antique toy is a reminder of a simpler time, and those lucky enough to own a few continue to enjoy them.
