Is stale bread still safe to eat? That is what you need to know.

By calmly choosing to carefully assess our food, reducing waste, and applying simple, proven kitchen tricks, we protect our vascular health and peace of mind in a powerful and proactive way.

The zero-waste kitchen ritual for the “avocado lover”

Because I have a distinct personal preference for avocados and incorporate them into almost every aspect of my life (even though my children absolutely do not share my love for them, which means I can eat the whole delicious load entirely for myself!), I categorically refuse to let stale bread go to waste.
Instead of throwing it away, I make something beautiful out of it! I turn my stale    bread  into crispy, golden-brown  farmhouse croutons    to garnish a simple, refreshing salad, with my beloved   three-ingredient  avocado puree .

Ingredients you need:

  • 2 cups of stale bread, cut into 2.5 cm cubes:  (Sourdough bread or sturdy whole wheat bread works best!)
  • 1 tablespoon of pure, cold-pressed avocado oil:  This is my secret trick!  It makes the bread beautifully crispy and simultaneously adds a generous dose of heart-friendly monounsaturated fats.
  • A small pinch of garlic powder, kosher  salt  , and dried herbs (such as thyme or oregano).
  • For the base:  ½ large, perfectly ripe avocado, mashed with a splash of fresh lemon juice and a pinch of sea salt flakes.

Step-by-step instructions:

  1. The gentle mixing method:  Preheat the oven to 190°C. Mix the stale bread cubes with the avocado oil, garlic powder, salt, and herbs until they are evenly coated.
  2. The crispy casserole:  Spread them in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake for 10 to 15 minutes, tossing halfway through, until they are deep golden brown and crispy.
  3. The conscious preparation:  Spread your creamy, lemon-flavored avocado puree on a slice of freshly toasted bread or a bed of green salad, and generously sprinkle your homemade, zero-waste croutons over it.
  4. The daily habit:  While enjoying this with my warm tea, I take five calm, deep breaths. I remind myself that I am resourceful and capable and nourish my body with simple, healthy, God-given foods. The healthy fats in the avocado support my blood vessels, while the warmth of the tea soothes my digestion.
